HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU

Hola Amigos,

On the Blogging Trail Again

03 October 2013
Hola Amigos,
For a hot minute in June, we thought that we would have time to “Do a Blog” during our trip to France and Spain. We did a few Blogs that were very well received and resulted in many comments from fellow travelers and friends that we had not seen for years. We loved hearing from so many people that we decided to try again. It takes an hour to do a good Blog.
In Europe we were spending 1 hour doing Le Petite Dejeunier, 2 hours savoring Lunch, taking a nap, and then doing Dinner. Dinner always started after 8 PM and ended about 1 AM. Not much time for Bloging.
Now you ask why are they trying again?
We were fortunate that Patty and Rick and their dog, Tilley, of Fais Do Do were our dock neighbors in MDR for 2 years. They are going to be doing the Baja HaHa.
Today at 5 AM we helped them cast off. There were 2 other boats on our dock that wished them fair winds. Patty was truly astonished that there would be that many people up at 5AM. Welcome to cruising Patty. We all wish you “Fair Winds and Following Seas”.
We will be still based in Rancho Mirage but look forward to sailing to Catalina the end of next week.
Fair Winds and Following Seas until we Blog again,

Hola,
This has been a complicated trip because we are trying to meet as many family and friends as we can. This would have been nearly impossible before the advent of email and Skype.
After several emails we hooked up with Ariane and Fred on Skype. The French are always apologizing for their nearly perfect English. We are the embarrassed ones but we hide it well.
It took about 40 minutes on the Metro to meet them at Fred's Mom's flat. Sean and his family will be spending a few nights there. You need a code to get through the first security door, then you by the security office to use a fob to get through the second door. Then you need two keys to get into the flat. Looks like typical security in nice Parisian apartments.
We then went on a wonderful Mr. Toads wild ride through the streets of Paris. Saturday night is alive with over flowing outdoor cafes and bars. Parking was impossible and Fred offered to drop off the ladies. Lewis said that we should keep the ladies because ML's guardian angels will find us a parking place. They felt that a parking space would be pretty low on a guardian angel's priority list but they started to believe a minute later when one appeared.
Mary Lee was in heaven( to continue the angel motif) when a 14 course Lebanese meal was presented to us.
Happy meals to you until we blog again,

Hola,
We know you have been waiting for the news before you go out and buy a new blazer, no upgrade.
Turns out it is harder to do a blog when you have jet lag than we thought.
So far our eyes and palates have been on sensory overload. Lunch was a perfectly cooked salmon and veal Milanese in a sidewalk cafe. Our cousin Marie invited us for a light and small dinner in her flat with a view of the top of the Tour Eiffel. Salad, cheese, veggies, prosciutto, fruit and a wonderful Bordeaux later sent us la la land.
Ten hours later we woke up and went down for Le petit dejeuner.
This was not your father's petit dejeuner.
It has been super sized. OJ,baguette, croissant, cheese, apple sauce, real yogurt, and a wonderful coffee. Every bite better than the first.
Looks like our attempt to look like a local failed After coming back from seeing Monet's Water Lilies at L'Orangerie a young lady tried the gold ring scam on us. While walking towards her she stoops down and picks up a gold ring and offers it to you. Not sure how it plays out but there are many variations on the theme.
Looking forward to another special meal with cousin Ariane.
No idea what new treats await us tomorrow.
Happy gastronomic trail to you.

Hola Amigos,
We went out with world famous clothing guru of Ask Andy fame. Sine the one thing we like better than professional advice is free professional advice, we asked him if it would be necessary to bring a sports coat for Europe. What a silly question, the obvious answer was,"Yes". He told us a well known fact that if the airlines were to upgrade someone they will pick the better attired passenger. We dusted off, literally, the old sport coat. He liked the coat but suggested a more appropriate pair of pants and shirt. He even showed us two ways to fold the pocket square. He thought that the pocket square would be the game changer between first class or just business.
Happy first class trails to you until we blog again.

Hola Amigos,
We have not done a Blog in two years. We are going on a trip to Europe and thought that we might try to document it on our Blog. We are flying not sailing but will keep our sail blog title. We are using ML's new I Pad so we may (will) have some tech challenges.
Happy Summer Trails to you until we blog again.

HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU

10 May 2011 | MDR
Hola Amigos,

Sunday May 8th , we left SDYC at 6 AM and saw absolutely nooooobody. This is a huge harbor. We usually have to dodge Warships, Pilot Boats and a gazallion small fishing boats. Such is the gravitational pull of Mother’s Day that glue guy’s feet to land and keep them from getting on their boats. “Honey how would you like to wake up at 5AM, get in a smelly fishing boat and bob up and down in the cold wet ocean for your Mother’s Day?” NOT!
Since we were the only ones out we thought we could relax on watch. Another NOT. About an hour outside of SD, a whale popped up 50 feet from us for some big gulps of air and then disappeared. Looks like whales don’t do Mother’s Day Brunch.
We got to Dana Point around 3PM. We anchored not once ,not twice, not thrice, but four times and we still did an awful job. Pretty pathetic after cruising for almost 7 months. We cleaned Turtle Bay sand and dirt off the dingy and came to shore for Mother’s Day dinner with Grandchildren and their Mother and ML’s baby.
We got another early start on Monday. There was a small craft advisory with winds of 15 to 20 knots, so we had some concerns about leaving. After seeing what conditions were like in a small craft advisory we are proud of how well the Merry Lee performed on the Bash with winds up to 30 knots. We got into our slip in Marina Del Rey at 3:30 PM. We had left La Paz exactly 13 days and 1000 miles ago. It was fun being welcomed back by all of our friends in the marina. We look forward to spending time with Family and Friends. They have been missed.
We have followed several other Sail Blogers over time and we have felt a disbelief that their journeys had ended and we really missed reading their Blogs.
If life is a circle, where does one journey end and a new one begin? We will let you know when we find out.

Happy Trails to Family and Friends to You and Us until be Blog again

If you want a referral for an excellent crew member, let us know and we will forward your name to him.
