Navigating by the stars
11 October 2009 | MDR
Hola Amigos,
Cruisers don't use the stars much for navigation now that GPS is so prevalent and accurate. The Merry Lee carries 3 GPS units. The North Star is mind boggling on over night passages. The crew of the Merry Lee occasionally do use another set of stars: the astrological stars. Usually it is for entertainment but you really cannot ignore the dire ones. As you remember in our last Blog we were patting our selves on the back for solving the "Check Engine" light problem. We thought that we were essentially done with major problems but we forgot the beginning lyrics of "Uncle John's Band": Well the first days are the hardest days,
Don't you worry any more, 'Cause when life looks like easy
Street, there is danger at your door.
In the LA Times, Lewis's horoscope was," Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Just when you think you've hurdled every obstacle, your next challenge comes into focus. It's a doozy. Remain fearless and rely on your instincts. You'll be brilliant ".
Many people would just ignore the warning but Lewis's 10/7 reading was: "Travel is imminent".
So, where will it be coming from? Will we notice it when we see it? Will it happen on land or on the sea? Will it be sooner or later? Doozy means something outstanding or unique. To bad that it does not mean boring and common.
We have 2 weeks before we leave. We guess a Blog is to let you know what is happening to us. We'll let you know.
Happy navigation to you until we Blog again,
Mary Lee and Lewis
