Sail the sea with The Merry Lee

Hola Amigos,

In hindsight we made a very good decision to alter our plans and stay at the King Harbor YC another day. It was really difficult to do that on only the second day of our trip. While the NOAA marine weather report was fairly benign except for tstms, we remembered the old time sailor's weather predicting: if you put your hand outside and it gets wet then you can pretty accurately predict rain. ML could see the lightening and hear the thunder from our bunk so she forecasted big time tstms. The Doppler radar showed hundreds of lightening strikes in the Catalina Channel. One of the rules of sailing is, "Thou shall avoid the near occasion of lightening." Around 4PM we got hit with driving wind and nearly 30 knot winds from the west-southwest. Most of the anchorages in Catalina are exposed to this storm.
We spent our day watching Doppler radar, watching old time movies, reading old time books and taking naps.
"What are the plans for the Merry Lee today?" Good question. We don't know. We might go to Catalina. ML might want to try out how well our AIS works by going by Long Beach and visiting Balboa or Long beach YC.
