St. Simons Island Lanier Anchorage

Today the original plan was a short 16 mile trip to see Jekyl Island, but then we realized the tide would not be in our favor on Thursday. Jekyl is impassable at low tide with depths down to 3.5 feet! We wouldnt be able to leave until Thursday at 1:00 which meant we couldnt get through the Little Mud River, which is also very low, until Friday. We would be losing a day, so it was decided to get through Jekyl and anchor off Lanier Creek near St Simons which allows us to leave here around 10:30 and hit the Little Mud River on a rising tide around 1:30 tomorrow afternoon. The tides are a bear in Georgia, as much as 9 feet so every nightcwe have to calculate what makes sense. We hope to go another 20 miles past the Little Mud but we'll see how the day goes. Tonight we all went over to the Restaurant at Golden Isles Marina. Stray Cat and Summer Wind are going outside in the ocean tomorrow to avoid the Georgia marshes and cut some time and miles. Mar-a-Lago, Montego and us will keep to the ICW...not quite as brave I guess. Elle and I stayed 1 more day at Cumberland Island to go ashore. My last comment is about the Coast Guard racing up and down the river near the Sub base doing a lot of who knows what making all kinds of wakes and wasting tax payers money. How many high speed turns do you need to make right next to us....really. You are responsible for your wake but who polices the Coast Guard? So we all kept our mouth shut except for one brave or stupid boater who said he wished he had bullets for his gun...yikes!
