Snow?

06 March 2015 | Silverthorne, CO
Greg, Sunny, snow, cool(high30)
There's no snow in Abacos. This is a song lyric from The Barefoot Man's song "Log cabins by the sea." Life sure can change and knock us on our butts. Last year we were living our dream and sailing in the Abacos getting ready to attend the Barefoot Mans Concert.
This year is getting back up after being thrown the biggest curve of my life. The support from family and friends has been overwhelming for me. There were over 200 people at Mary's Celebration of life. We had a wonderful time of stories, memories and a big party just like Mary would have wanted.
Now it is time for me to get back to the boat. The winter wonderland of Colorado will fade as I reach the warm weather, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters of the Caribbean. I will be downhill skiing on Tuesday and drinking rum punches on the beach Wed.
This trip will be very hard for me but I know I need to push forward. We take so much for granted when life is good. Once I get to the boat I will realize how much Mary was part of this dream and how much of a team we were. The reality is going to hit really hard and I am not looking forward to it.
I have two crew that will be sailing with me to Puerto Rico. One person I have known for over 10 years and he has a sailboat on Lake Dillon. The other crew I found thru Cruiser's Forum. He is much younger but has two cross Atlantic sails under his belt. It will be a good test for me to see how I feel about sailing without my Firstmate and help me plan out my future.
Stay Tuned for further adventures. We hope to leave the Turks March 15-16 in route to Dominican Republic.
The picture is of me snowshoeing on one of Colorado's Bluebird days.

About: Greg has been sailing since he was 21. I grew up in North Dakota and started taking advantage of the constant winds. After selling my bicycle store in 2006 we got more serious about living our dream on a sailboat. Greg and his wife purchased Mile High Dream in 2013.
Extra:
Greg and Mary had owned Nada Mas, a 23' South Coast, on Lake Dillon in Colorado for 33 years. We chartered in the Caribbean and Calif. numerous times. We were excited to begin our dream. While waiting for a weather window in the Truks and Caicos, Mary died unexpectedly Jan. 6 2015 after a [...]
