We have arrived in the DR
18 March 2015 | Ocean World Marina, Dominican Republic
Greg, sunny nice winds
The three boats pow-wowed and listened to Chris Parker the sailors weather guru. Then we looked up our own favorite weather apps and decided yes it is time to go. And off we went leaving the Turks and Caicos at 10:30 AM. We dodged the coral heads, left the shallow water and off we went. Under full sail we picked up the 15-20knots wind and Dominican Republic, here we come.
Why Knot, one of our buddy boats soon catches a nice Mahi Mahi. We catch nothing except sea weed. That is pretty normal for my fishing experience.
The winds are brisk and we are all sailing around 5-6 knots. The catamaran can't point up wind quite as well as we can so we adjust so we can sail together. I am looking over my starboard side (right) and say "there is a water spout. No that is not a water spout it is three wales traveling in the opposite direction." I radio Livin Life the third boat in our group and let her know that the wales are coming. Soon one does a full breach out of the water. What a show off.
We settle in to our routine of sailing in shifts. Dylan goes down below and promptly falls asleep. Ted and I look at each other and say" the ability of sleep is wasted on the youth. Why can't we just go down and fall asleep like that." We look at each other again and Ted says "of all the things that the virility of a 28 year has and we are wishing we could sleep better. That is pretty sad"
Nine hours of rock and rolly and Ted's stomach has had enough. It will be long 15 hours to go before we end up on shore for Ted. No MacDonald's to stop at and take a break. The sun sets and on through the night we sail.
It is a moonless night and the stars are spectacular. The big Dipper, Orion, The seven sister's, and every other constellation is in clear sight. Oh What A Night.
Finally we arrive in the Dominican Republic. We clear customs and we are all happy to stretch out our sea legs and walk around on land. We will be for a few days and watch for some more good weather to make our passage to the Dominican Republic.
