Southern coast of PR

28 March 2015 | Ponce Yacht Club Maria
nightime
Bahia de Ponce: Ponce Yacht Club-you will be entertained by LOUD music. Often time there will be six different booths with six different samples of LOUD music for your enjoyment. Add to that the wind that is causing the ropes to creak as the dock lines stretch and all of the boats at the marina that want to compete with the other LOUD music. Where oh where are my earplugs. This maybe a very long night.
My guide book states "Experienced cruisers in this area will tell you that the southern coast is the toughest. You'll be heading eastward into the prevailing winds and seas and it is a Tough Beat." It is truly living up to it's reputation. Reaching Ponce has taken us too very hard days to complete what we thought would be an easy one day travel.
Winds of 20-30 with gust higher and seas up to 10' have made this a challenge. Waves crashing over the deck, max speeds of 2 knots, and an occasional rain storm just to add some excitement has been the norm for the last two days. The weather report says tomorrow will be calmer lasting into Monday. We hope they are correct for a change.
My hope it too reach eastern Puerto Rico and the main marina on Monday. My crew is working out very well but they are ready to go back home. It has been a longer pull than we expected but that is what cruising is.
The picture is the Sunrise over Boqueron the morning we left.

Extra:
Greg and Mary had owned Nada Mas, a 23' South Coast, on Lake Dillon in Colorado for 33 years. We chartered in the Caribbean and Calif. numerous times. We were excited to begin our dream. While waiting for a weather window in the Truks and Caicos, Mary died unexpectedly Jan. 6 2015 after a [...]
