Fixing in Barra
29 December 2014 | Grand Bay Marina
Early this morning, before the wind, KT and I took the headsail down for repair. With our sewing machine on the forward deck, we wrestled the sail around for an hour and a half but got the job done. Then KT hoisted me to the masthead so I could replace the windex destroyed by an Osprey in San Jose del Cabo a few weeks ago and lube both the sail and spinnaker pole tracks. With that work done, we both wondered if our last project - replacing the batteries - would come together tomorrow. Having placed our order 2 days before Christmas (which makes for a nice long weekend for many in Mexico) and another holiday on the horizon, we had our doubts. Mexicans REALLY enjoy their holidays and there are a lot of the,.... Then our Mexican phone announced we had a text - I glanced at the message and saw it was from Sara the battery lady. I'm only on level 2 on my Rossita Stone course (seriously) but I completely understoood "ya tengo sus batterias - que hora entregar?" My level 2 reply resulted in Sara's English speaking son calling our phone to clarify my communication... So, it seems that Hector will be bringing our batteries at 0930 to the marina - a VERY long way from the battery place. Hector wanted 150 pesos ($12) to make the delivery - I told him "help me get my old one off the boat and I'll pay ya 300!" So it appears we will be ready to rock by days end after a great Christmas in Barra de Navidad with my parents and some very good friends thanks to Sara the battery lady who apparently takes deliveries from Guadalajara and communicates with her customers on Sundays! Damn I love Mexico!!
