We moved a little further south a couple of days ago to Santiago Bay (just north of Manzanillo). Santiago is a beautiful bay lined with white sand beaches and everything from glitzy high rise buildings to palapa restaurants. On the weekend and holidays the place is packed with beach goers, water skiers, paddle boards, kayaks and some things that simply defy the imagination. Last night, for example, one of the rental places had a guy speeding about on an unlighted jet ski rounding up the late paddle boarders and kayakers - it was about 8:30 and PITCH BLACK. I could hear the kids laughing away as they worked their way to the beach - dodging the pangas blasting about at full throttle. In the US there'd be a line of lawyers on the beach trolling for clients but this is Mexico and here you're responsible for your own actions. As unsafe as somethings seem (like why half the structures in every city aren't blazing away) the people who live here just don't seem to worry about it and guess what - it works pretty good. I am not advocating the US turn to Mexico as the utopian example!!!! Rather, I'm simply saying that different things work for different people and no one way is best for all in my humble opinion! Off the soapbox and back to the purpose of this post - we love Santiago and will be in this area for the next 3 weeks. Manzanillo is our most southern point for this trip! BTW - Héctor, el hijo de Sara a la mujer de la baterías, was on time with our new batteries. Best of all, they seem to be working fine in spite of having 50% less capacity than the old ones. Air 86 and sunny, water 84.5 - indeed all good here!

Not sure what's ahead for us. After 41 years of owning sailboats and sailing MissTeak on 3 extended trips into Mexico, we sold her and have purchased a powerboat. We're planning to spend the next several months learning the boat, building inventory and getting used to the roar of twin 450hp [...]
