Heading north
15 January 2015 | Underway near Manzanillo
Chip
We started our northern migration this morning from Santiago Bay/Manzanillo (1865 miles from Dana point). This is our most southern destination and it has been very fun to just hang around rather than being constantly on the move as in years past. Along with enjoying the area, of course we've had a few things to repair (replaced batteries, sewed headsail, sewed mainsail cover, replaced masthead windex and steaming light, reprogrammed and reprogrammed and reprogrammed inverter controller, replaced printed circuit board and electronic control module on freezer compressor, installed 3 cooling fans on refrigeration compressors, and replaced a broken main engine throttle cable). We have ordered new and MUCH LARGER batteries which hopefully get to Puerta Vallarta around January 27 to 30. In spite of the rash of boat stuff, this leg of our 3rd Mexico adventure has been a gas. Manzanillo is a very cool place - a mix of industrial (giant port here - all those green triangles on the photo are container ships), beautiful beaches and real Mexico. Downtown and the central market are impressive - the amount of construction in support of the port operations reminds us of Long Beach/LA harbors. On to Tenacita for a few presently, then Chamela where we will await a weather window for going around Cabo Corrientes. If we can get into the bay by the middle of next week, we plan to get a slip at the downtown marina for a couple of days - apparently KT requires more shopping! Calm seas, air 75, water 82 and sunny. 4 hours to go.
