Moving along

22 March 2015 | Isla San Francisco
Chip
After a week on Espiritu Santo/Isla Partida we moved 20 miles into the Sea of Cortez to Isla San Francisco. Our stay at Ensenada Grande was great. There's a hiking trail that goes from the beach up a rocky river bed to the top of the mountain 2 miles away (misnomer for sure - there is no flippin' "trail" unless you're a rabbit or goat). We hiked to the halfway point on one day with friends off the sailboat Nova then, after having experienced the difficulties of this DESERT hike, for some unknown reason KT and I decided we needed to make the summit! So the following day off we went - leaping from boulder to boulder, dodging cactus and trying to stay upright. All the while looking cautiously for snakes (lots of lizards, rabbits and small rodents around - think food chain....). After 2 hours of walking in the baking sun we reached the top - absolutely beautiful! The come down was 30 minutes quicker - once we saw the water at Ensenada Grande, like a horse seeing the barn, our speed quickened substantially! We spent the rest of the afternoon re-hydrating via cold Pacificos and jumping in and out of the ocean trying to cool our core body temperature and ease the muscle pain... We're on Isla San Francisco now where there are also several "impressive" hiking trails (what luck....). KT is going to Spain in September with her sister and brother-in-law to do the Camino de Santiago walk - thus she's in full on training mode. And, even though I'm not walking across Spain, I'm apparently in training mode as well (huh)! All good here. Air Temp: 86, Wind: 0, Water Temp: 77, clear sky!

Extra:
Not sure what's ahead for us. After 41 years of owning sailboats and sailing MissTeak on 3 extended trips into Mexico, we sold her and have purchased a powerboat. We're planning to spend the next several months learning the boat, building inventory and getting used to the roar of twin 450hp [...]
