New Restaurants

We anchored in the northern lobe in Agua Verde hoping (seriously) that a good crowd of Semana de Santa campers would show up - thus far it's not many. Turns out that the last hurricane, which blasted the Cabo San Lucas area in the fall, did a job on the 40 mile long dirt road into Agua Verde. The town was badly damaged but the spirit of the people living here remains strong! We heard that there were 2 restaurants opening on the beach (previously there were none...) so we went looking. We found one place that was still under- construction but was indeed open for business offering fish tacos and quesadillas with all of the fixings (plus bags of potato chips which the Mexicans everywhere cut off the top, pour in catsup or salsa and eat with a spoon....)! No drinks on hand but they quickly run to a nearby tiende or, because of Semana Santa, a Tecate beer truck parked on the beach. Then today, after living my own episode of Survivor Agua Verde (i.e. marching through the desert with my lovely wife - only one rattlesnake...) we found the second place - right next to the first place. 10 women in a co-op are running this place while 30 (THIRTY!!!!) are managing the other. To say these ladies are excited and working hard is an understatement - both places are very cool but it's a real head scratcher as to from where the customer will come! We decided to have lunch at the first place we'd found. KT ordered a fish taco while I walked down the beach for the Tecate - along the way I saw one of the ladies from our restaurant run over to a recently beached panga and grab a 30 lbs yellowtail (at least 4' long) and run back to the restaurant - I told KT "here comes your taco!" She thought I was kidding - in walked another member of the co-op with a huge knife and there you have it - very very fresh fish tacos on handmade flour totillas! Tomorrow we're having dinner at the second place where they claim to have a very robust menu (even though they only opened today....). Both KT and I hope that the beaches in Agua Verde fill up over the next couple of days so these restaurants do well!
