Glad we came over!

About 15 miles and the contrast is stunning! Guaymas was an interesting place. Old Mexican industrial city, a significant port, home to one of Mexico's largest fishing fleets, big Navy base (and ships - duh) and people hurrying everywhere. By water 10 miles north is San Carlos - big gringo settlement. We are told one can drive the distance in 3 hours from the US/Mexico border. Condos, big "jaw dropping" homes on the hills overlooking the bay or out into the Sea of Cortez. While there is a Mexico "flavor" it feels a lot like America for the most part. And, as luck would have it, at a small, but jumping, bar during the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, we had the misfortune of observing "the ugly American" in the flesh (I'll leave it at that but it was absolutely the most embarrassing few minutes of our 25 months roaming about Mexico and you gotta know we've seen some pretty bad Jose Cuervo induced "dumbasses" during that time). Anyhow, this morning we left Bahia San Carlos, where we just happened to be renting a mooring owned by the brother-in-law of a former Sacramento City Fire Chief who is a friend of mine, and headed 5 miles north to Bahia Algodones. This beautiful bay, with its white sand beach, is lined with attractive/spectacular homes, a couple of resorts, a marina and, best of all, a mitt full of Chacala-like palapa restaurants! Our friends on Moontide suggested The Soggy Peso so we went there (the photo above is MissTeak on the hook in front of said drinking establishment - only boat in the bay)! The social-economic dichotomy of this area is enough to make your head spin like Linda Blair in the Exorcist but it seems to work! Thursday may be the day we slide back to the Baja!
