Heaven Can't Wait!

07 April 2016 | Virgin Gorda, BVI
This season we have been enjoying some great adventures with s/v Andiamo, Leroy and Kim. Most recently we ventured on an extreme hike to the top of Virgin Gorda, all for the love of ribs! The idea first started with a conversation the night before about taking a taxi ride to"Hog Heaven" for dinner, since the view is supposed to be spectacular for watching sunsets. It is located at the top of Virgin Gorda overlooking Gorda Sound. We had heard the taxi fare was quite steep at $20 a head. So, the idea soon changed when Shane decided to Google the distance from the Leverick Bay Marina, where we were anchored. It was only 2.3 miles....one way, and would be a fairly easy walk except it is all up hill on narrow, black paved roads with very little shade! The next morning, we reluctantly decided to tackle this hike but for lunch instead. Needless to say, there was a lot of complaining, threats to turn back or to call a cab, and Kim even stuck her thumb out once to hitch a ride, but no one stopped. There was very little traffic. We maybe had 6 cars pass us in an hour. We thought we were well prepared, all doused in sunscreen with water bottles in hand but it was HOT! At a little after 1pm we finally reached the top, and by then, we realized it was very well worth the pain and agony. The view was fantastic! We could even see Anegada from there which is about 17 miles due north. The ribs, rice and beans and coleslaw were well worth it and a cold beer never tasted that good!
