Hunkering Down In Pipe Creek

08 April 2014 | Thomas Cay, Exuma Bahamas
Bahaman Brown Racer Snake
A bit of a blow was coming on Tuesday evening so we headed back south to Pipe Creek. A lovely spot to anchor! We enjoyed some good snorkeling that afternoon before the blow, but no hunting, thanks to the nurse shark that was hanging near the coral garden. We also snorkeled the baby conch "field" where hundreds if not thousands of baby conch are resting quietly on the sandy bottom in between The Rat and The Mice Islands. On Wednesday morning it was cloudy and cool (67 degrees) with a few showers around. It was a great time to catch up on some reading and play a few rounds of Bananagrams. When the clouds began to part mid afternoon we braved the 20-25 knot gusts in the dinghy to get ashore for a short hike to the eastern side of Thomas Cay. Shane and Pete looked for additional trails while Karen went shelling and Sara hunted for more beach glass for her collection. On a small low bush right next to the trail on the way back there was this Bahaman brown racer snake which was pretty well hidden because its body was camouflaged by the branches.
