On Christmas morning we made a lovely brunch onboard suited for only the finest pf yachts! Ham, mushroom and cheese omelets, homemade English muffins, hash browns with Yucatan Sunshine, and Canadian Bacon, only to be topped off with a champagne-guava-mango cocktail! Although the brand new bottle of champagne was flat and lacking bubbles, it was still hit the spot! After brunch we opened gifts from Santa who shimmed down the mast in the middle of the night and delivered them through an open hatch.
That afternoon we decided to take a leisurely hike and burn off our brunch walking the Orchid Trail loop over looking Gorda Sound. Much to our surprise, this trail was much more than we bargained for. It started off easily enough, and Lucia was excited, running ahead only to be stopped now and then at the end of her 25 feet of flexible leash. After only 15 minutes, we came to what we thought was already the end of the trail. But a couple of local "security guards" hanging out at a dilapidated building old guarding the entrance to the Birus Creek Resort, told us to keep going and look for the continuation of the trail at the stone arch. From here on out, we climbed higher and higher, in the heat and humidity, clambering over boulders and loose stones. We were lucky to be not to be wearing our flip-flops, but we should have had more than just one bottle of water each! 2 1/2 hours later we made our way around the trail, exhausted and hungry again!
We spotted this giant caterpillar on our hike. It was a good 5-6 inches long-amazing!

We never tire of this beautiful scenery here in the Caribbean. This photo is looking west and down on Saba Rock, where they serve wonderful Pain Killers and conch fritters! We are anchored near the shoreline...can you spot us?
