Feliz Navidad

What a gift to wake up Christmas morning to sunny skies, a wild and beautiful landscape, and the knowledge that we were in our first anchorage on Baja California - after so many years of work and imagining!
The water here was incredibly clear - we could see the bottom where we anchored in about 25 feet, outside a big kelp bed and some pangas (sturdy open fish boats) moored off the beach. There is a small fish camp here, and we met two of the fishermen who had just returned from a night of Christmas celebration at San Quintin, about 15 nm southwest, on the mainland.
Luckily for us, Oscar is also the camp cook and generously cooked up our first taste of delicious fresh lobster, or langosta.
The fishermen stay here for about five days at a time then take a couple of days off back on the mainland. They are fishing for lobster, crab, and fish, which are kept alive in holding cages in the bay and transported every third day to the fish markets in Ensenada. Apparently most of the lobster is exported to China!
We miss all our family and friends at home -we wouldn't have made it this far without all of your love and support!! We hope everyone reading this is having a happy holiday season.
