The Manana Principle

Hi all,
Happy December and thanks so much for all the birthday wishes!
I almost got a quickie for my birthday…. a quickie haulout, that is. We are still in Guaymas harbour, and are getting a little lesson in the laws of Murphy and manana.
We have just the tiniest little drip coming in one of the through-hulls, and suspect it is from dried-out bedding so thought we’d do a quick haulout and hang in the slings here in the government-run Fonatur boatyard/marina for a few hours to re-bed it. Is would have been easy and pretty cheap. So in accordance with their rules we paid ahead for the lift which was to lift us on Monday morning.
Alas, the machine stopped running in the meantime and a hydraulic pump has left the boatyard premises seemingly never to return, although every day the very kind staff hopefully tell us “maybe tomorrow” which we are slowly realizing is a polite way of saying “maybe around the time that hell freezes over.” That’s also when we get the deposit back.
It isn’t their fault, though, these government marinas are administered remotely from Mexico City and rumour is they are very close to bankruptcy, a frustration for the staff here who are really doing their best.
As another cruiser pointed out, it is best to just stay ‘simpatico,’ and not get too worked up about it. It’s all good, as they say.
Even though we really like Guaymas and have had a little extra time to visit friends, do some chores and provision, we do hope to leave here someday and so will have to address our little drip somewhere else… manana.

Much love to everyone and stay as warm as you can!

PS -- the computer has taken a bit of a bump and isn’t as reliable as it used to be, so if communications slow down or stop that’s why:(
