New Year’s was spent in beautiful San Juanico, which was our northernmost anchorage on the Baja last spring. Hiking and snorkeling is great there. Only one other boat was in the bay: Buena Vista with Don and Deb on board, more Marquesas hopefuls!
Don collected driftwood -- which is not nearly as easy to come by as at home though it is much drier being mostly desiccated cactus bits -- and we had a fun beach fire, tequila and shot off a few rounds of expired flares to toast 2011.
FYI to the boaters out there, almost a third of the ten-year-old flares were duds. Don’t worry, we are also carrying current flares. Safety first, that’s the motto.
And speaking of safety and seamanship, while we were busy with the fireworks and festivities, our dinghy tried to make an escape! It was luckily reigned in before it hit the high seas. Naughty dinghy.
