Still working away in La Paz
24 February 2012 | La Paz anchorage
99% sunny
It’s hard to believe that almost a month has gone by since we arrived in the La Paz area. Our week-long haulout went well, and we have been busy since then eating fish tacos, working on projects, shopping, and socializing with old and new friends.
We are anchored near the ‘mogote,’ a low, sandy island just north of town and maybe a half-mile or so across the channel from the dinghy dock at Marina de La Paz. It’s fun to sail to and from town when we can. Often there is more than a knot of tide ripping through the anchorage and it can be a slow row if wind and tide are working either against you, or against each other.
The dinghy got a makeover including a paint job (safety orange as it is our lifeboat), wooden gunnel repair, and a pool noodle/sunbrella bumper.
The cockpit has turned out to be a good canvas shop for larger projects including interior storage pockets and a bit of work on some newly acquired light air sails. Not as ergonomic a workspace as I had back in the canvas shop at home but much sunnier!
