MtM / Blowing dogs of leashes
Left Island Creek on Wednesday after a couple of delightful days. This was our first visit and we certainly weren't disappointed. Safe and very comfortable anchorage with beautiful scenery and a lovely long beach for afternoon walks. Set off on Thursday for Curlew Island and arrived after a long day sailing in spritely conditions. Winds were now reaching 20+knots and seas were building. A decision was needed as to if we would continue on to Mackay on Friday or stay holed up for 3 or 4 days until the large front passed. After a restless night and MtM very nervous we did make a joint decision to press on. 45nm later in 2m seas and 25+kn winds, we made an impressive entrance into Mackay harbour broaching on a wave but CC soon correcting and having us arrive safely. Phew, welcome to the Whitsundays 😮👍. Whilst exhausted and very tired we did manage to be social last night and meet some new fellow sailors at Sails on The Marina. We will spend the next couple of days here to wait until the winds and seas calm down. Tomorrow should be exciting in the harbour as the Offshore Race Boats, looks like F1 race car equivalents are set to do their stuff. Looks like madness to me but I'm sure they know what they're doing 😁. Looking forward to the weather settling down and warming up a little.
