Frances, the little bottler
27 May 2017 | Fatu Hiva, Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia
Although it is much further south, with it's rugged topography, Fatu Hiva reminds us of Rapa Iti, in the Austral Islands. As I've commented on previously, the amount of fruit that grows in the Marquesas is staggering, so much fruit that it just falls to the ground and rots. Fruits include limes, pampelmousse (big, sweet grapefruit), sour sop, breadfruit, bananas, starfruit (carombola), mangos, pawpaws, oranges, guava and of course, the not so humble coconut. It's impossible to eat fresh all that you either trade or are given so Frances has made some delightful preserves such as pampalmous and lime marmalade, 4 tropical fruits jam and mango chutney.
