Waiting Again in Ft. Lauderdale
19 December 2013 | Lake Sylvia, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Donna
I guess there are worse places in the world to be stuck than where we are. Our biggest problem with being in Ft. Lauderdale is that it is so easy to spend money here. We think we have the watermaker issue resolved. We had a tech out to look at it and of course it behaved almost perfectly well that time. We spent a day running it and making water, even though this is not the most ideal spot to make water in. Of course it performed wonderfully. Bill and the tech think there is still a problem but what they think is wrong with it will allow us to limp through until we get back to Annapolis this summer.
Our next weather window seems to be next Monday. We’ve readjusted our thinking and we think we will head down the ICW to Miami and leave in the very early morning on Monday probably for Bimini instead of Nassau. We realized that we were getting dangerously close to arriving on Christmas and since you can’t leave your boat until you clear customs that would limit what we could do.
In the meantime we are enjoying Ft. Lauderdale, eating meals out too often, and Bill is finding even more interesting things to buy. Today we were in the dinghy going up the canal to the restaurant where we tie up and we saw this megayacht with a submarine on its stern, as you can see in the picture above. I guess it’s what you buy when you have so much money you just don’t know what to do with it. Actually, I think I would love to take a little submarine like that around the reefs in the Bahamas.
We shop more low key though. We were in West Marine today and Bill decided we really ought to try fishing this year. We have avoided it because we just aren’t sure what we would do if we actually caught something. Well, we may just have to find out. Today we bought all the gear necessary to fish with a hand line off the stern of our boat. No rods required, just a spool and some fishing line and some lures. We are already laughing about it – I’m sure there is more laughter coming!
