Wild Ride
02 March 2014 | 25 Miles West of SW Haiti
Bill
We had quite an exciting night. The winds have been blowing from the north at 25-30 knots continuously. The boat has handled it perfectly. We took turns being on watch (3 hours on and three hours off). I had 8-11pm and 2-5am. Donna had 11pm-2am and 5-8am. We were flying along at six to seven knots.. sometimes more. We just had our mizzen (the sail in the back) and our jib (half rolled up). There were several ships but we saw them on our AIS display before we could even see them visually. We are now approaching the SW tip of Haiti and will pass it and turn the corner this evening. The winds should die down a bit because we will be in the lee of Haiti. The picture doesn't do justice to the amazing beautiful waves all around us. By the way.. Donna wanted me to mention that I am doing the blog just to give her a break. She is feeling fine and handling all the motion with no problems. Last time we did an ocean crossing I did the blog because she was sick. Not this time!
