Safely in Maine
24 June 2013 | Seal Bay, Penobscot Bay, Maine
Donna
We are now safely anchored in Seal Bay, part of Vinalhaven in Penobscot Bay. It is incredibly gorgeous here. Technically it wasn’t a very rough trip here but I did not enjoy it that much. I don’t think I really like the ocean passages at night. I’ve never been a good sleeper but trying to get enough sleep in only three hours while there is so much noise and movement around you is next to impossible. I tried to do this passage without any seasick medication and I did get a little seasick. It wasn’t awful, but enough to be annoying and of course I ended up taking the medication anyhow. Luckily Bill is very good at doing almost everything that needs to be done in the middle of the night himself. We had a storm pass through, although I don’t think it ever rained. We took the sails down and motored for a while while I was on watch and then when the storm was gone Bill put the sails back up. We probably sailed a lot more on this trip north than we motored and that is always a good thing.
We were not lucky enough to see any whales along the way although I am pretty sure we will see some seals here in Maine. We came up into Penobscot Bay in beautiful weather and were treated to the kind of scenes you see in pictures all the time. We will try and capture some of the beauty here but it never is as good on the pictures as it is in real life. Above is a picture of our anchorage. We will probably stay here a couple of days and just relax. We’ve already met some of the neighbors. There are only three boats here. We spent some time visiting with the couple on one of the other boats and they told us all the great places to go in Maine. We are really looking forward to the next month or so we will spend here.
