The Foxy’s Experience

After we went to the Bubbly Pool on Monday we had lunch at Foxy’s Taboo. We were not impressed. One thing we have noticed in the British Virgin Islands is that you don’t really get very good service at restaurants. Every restaurant puts a service charge on the bill so you aren't actually tipping for good service. The waiters and waitresses have no incentive to do a good job, so most of them do not. We did have good service once or twice, but the majority of our servers have not been very friendly. We were particularly unhappy with the waitress at Foxy’s Taboo who out right lied to Bill about his sacred Diet Coke.
On Tuesday we motored the short distance around Jost Van Dyke and decided to anchor outside the mooring field as a number of other boats had done there. There were very few moorings left and this way we saved some money. The mooring probably cost $30 there and we are always happier on our anchor. We couldn't get any internet there though. We took a reconnaissance trip into “town” with our iPad. Town is basically a strip of restaurants and souvenir shops. We found Christine’s bakery where we bought an incredibly good cinnamon bun. The only place we could find free WiFi though was at Foxy’s restaurant. Foxy’s is legendary among cruisers. In the picture above you can see the souvenir part of the place behind me, to the right is the restaurant where people hang T-shirts and other things with their names and the date they were there written on them. We decided to have a frozen rum drink, use the Internet a bit, and then go back for appetizers later in the evening to see if we could get a little more of its atmosphere. Apparently Foxy’s shines when Foxy is there, and he wasn't…
On our way back to the boat we stopped to say hello to a boat we were anchored next to in Salinas, Puerto Rico but never got a chance to meet, Little Wing. We had an instant connection and we all really enjoyed each other’s company. They came over to our boat a bit later and the four of us decided to go to Foxy’s for drinks and appetizers. Imagine our surprise when we saw our waitress would be the same one we were so unhappy with from Foxy’s Taboo! No problem though, she completely ignored us. The only way we got any drinks or appetizers was to go to the bar and order them ourselves. We were surprised to run into some cruisers we have met a couple of times in the past weeks from Pixie Dust. They stopped at our table to say hello. We have now had the Foxy’s experience and can mark that one off our list!
On our walk around town we found the place we wanted to have breakfast our last morning in Jost Van Dyke. It was up on a high porch with a great view of the harbor. We went up to take a look at it and there was a sign on the door saying something about Easter and that the kitchen was closed today. Well it was a couple of days past Easter so we figured they were probably taking some time off. We didn't think we’d be having breakfast there. We ended up going back to the bakery for breakfast this morning. Unfortunately there were no cinnamon buns today but we did share a wonderful blueberry muffin and a very good low cost breakfast. There was not much in the way of atmosphere, and the cook seemed a little pissed she was going to have to work, but I didn't have to cook breakfast so that is always a good thing!
