After a very pleasant catch up with Linda and Dave from Jazz Cat we hit the bed early after the previous nights lack of sleep. Up at 0500 to check wether was still good to go, Kathy out of bed 0530 and (Knock me down with a feather) Clear Horizons had upped anchor and waiting behind us at the stroke of six am dark to depart. Not certain that Audra and Steve had ever been up this early, but there they where bright eyed and bushy tailed, well moving anyway.
Crossed the Malloolaba Bar at dead low tide but our reconnoiter yesterday had confirmed, given the conditions it would be a straight forward departure.
I hope Audra and Steve's eyes where open enough to enjoy it.
Clear Horizons in the cold light of day.
We knew if we wanted to get over the Wide Bay Bar today we needed to push hard to get there befor 2 pm, with variable 5 to 15 knots directly behind us we agreed to a full noise motor sail trying to keep our speed above 8 knots all the way.
We passed a pod of Humbacks also headed North.
As we approached Double Island Point we had a fish strike and I hauled in a 600 mm Northern Blue Fin Tuna. Sushi-mi tonight and the cats get a special treat for a few days as well.
Steve and Audra slowed to allow us to catch up after dealing with the fish, here they are along side us headed towards the Wide Bay Bar.
With the turn in way point not far off Kathy heated up some Balfour's pies and pasties we had found at the supermarket, so we crossed the bar while having lunch. Braking waves can be seen over Kathy's shoulder.
The old turn point is now well and truly in the breakers.
Snugly anchored in Pelican Bay just after 2 pm mission accomplished.
