Everything is coming together
02 September 2011
This week I had my last day at the office. Wednesday afternoon my office team presented me with cake and several presents that I can use on board during the trip and even a real Stetson hat. Saying goodbye to the peers you have worked with closely for years is not fun. Professional wise we had a good thing going and I am pleased it has worked as well as it did and we had lots of fun doing it. Now it is time for new things.
As the header indicates, "things are coming together". Final day at work and it looks like we sold the house this week! That is a major thumbs up due to the bad housing market here in the USA (everywhere?). I will only sleep well when we have the money in the bank account, however everything is planned for closing on September 15th. After that we will have to live in an extended stay hotel for some weeks till we move on board, all "for the good".
Heloisa is busy getting the house ready and cutting our ties to Houston. Canceling everything that needs to be cancelled, opening a mailbox, getting paperless banking set up and so on and so no. We are making great progress, Heloisa is going a great job in that. I will be starting today moving things to the boat that needs to go on the boat.
Well here lies a challenge, we have perhaps room for goods stored in one moving box, we have however several (many) boxes with goods to go on board. All equally important according Heloisa. Everything is stocked in our garage right now (see picture). This is going to be an interesting jigzsaw puzzle to get everything stored on board and still keep some spots open to sleep and sit.
We have a system set up in where we have marked each and every locker and space on board with an identifier number on a boat drawing. Every item that goes into a space or locker will be marked on a list with identifiers number accompanying the drawing. If you don't do it that way, you will never ever find that box of matches or that little bag with spares for the pump toilet, ever again I'm afraid.
