SKIE and Serendipity left Port Hardy at 3:30pm to head out into Queen Charlotte Strait to anchor at a place called Walker Group Cove, which Douglas speaks highly about in their guide book. It was glowing 20 to 25 knots on the nose (NW), but the current was flooding, so it wasn't a bad ride.
The entrance from the SW into the cove was a bit of a ride given it was very narrow and there was a lot of current running in from the wave action. Steering that narrow inlet was a bit challenging, but we both made it through in good shape. Inside, it was calm. I tried anchoring in the south side of the cove at first, but didn't like the holding so moved to the north side of the cover, where I was satisfied with the holding. Peter stayed on the shallower, hard-bottom south side, but fortunately its unlikely to blow over 10 knots in here and only a bit of the swell gets in, so its pretty comfy and tonight shouldn't make much demand on our ground tackle.
Plan for tomorrow is a sunrise departure to round Cape Caution and run up as far as we can in one day. We've got five days to make Ketchikan, so we've got to get moving. The picture showing SKIE with a bone in her teeth is from yesterday when running from Port McNeil to Port Hardy under gale warnings. A little rough.
