Call me Ishmael... just kidding, my name is Randy Ramirez, born Medford, Oregon 1965. Son to David and Linda Ramirez. Invited in the mid 90's to go sailing by friend Glen Davis. This was my first experience sailing. [...]With zero boating experience let alone sailing, I was amazed we could sail into the direction of the wind. Next day Glen gives me a book "Basic Sailing Theory" by Steve Collgate. Next Coast Guard Auxiliary "Dead Reckoning" Purchased a flying 15' towed it to lakes and delta sailing. Next a Catalina 25 "Assumption" with pop-top, self taking jib, 10hp outboard Honda and swing keel. Perfect boat for the Delta and a beginner. Made it so easy and fun I was hooked. Next a 34' Cal. "Polly-O" After sailing from Stockton to San Francisco Bay numerous times... It's time to go out the Golden Gate hang a left. Lived in Marina Del Rey for almost a year. Headed back up to San Francisco where I was de-masted just out side the gate. Next a Flicka 20' "Dulcinea" my 2nd love and entered the Ba-Ha-Ha 2006. Great times! Great friends. Met Bruce and Steve Albert in the Ha-Ha whom have had a strong influence in my life. Finally a Mariah 31' "Mystic" and Jenny Haldiman my 1st love. Also a self taught sailor with the same dreams of cruising the world by boat. It's The Mystic Life for me, ARGGG.....
Hi, I'm Jenny, born in Hawaii and raised in Oregon (mostly). We lived a semi-nomadic lifestyle as I was growing up. This I believe was the basis of my social and highly adaptable nature. After taking a sailing class at a community college and experimenting with different small boats on the coast of Oregon, I left Oregon on a Hunter 27' and ended up in Sausalito, California. While working in a few different restaurants over 10 years, my time was split, on and off of boats. Needing to reconnect with the sailing life I crewed on a 48' trimaran, Blind Luck, known for having a crew of 8 women in the '07 Haha. I was inspired by my crewmate, "Red Jen", who had saved up and planned to "hitch-hike" on sail boats. I was struck! Cruising on other people's boats just hadn't occurred to me. So I went home, gave notice at my job and went about liquidating my life so I could catch a boat from Mexico to cross the Pacific and hopefully further. Well, things didn't happen in a timely manner (or so I thought at the time). I couldn't make it all happen in time for the Puddle Jump, so I thought I'd buy a one-way ticket to Papette, Tahiti, to catch a boat there...and that's when Randy came into the cafe where I worked. Well, the story is a long one, but it comes down to one thing that he said to me: "It doesn't make much sense for you to fly to Tahiti, when you can sail to Tahiti." So begins our Mystic Life...
