The day has finally arrived when we release the lines from the dock at Point Roberts and set sail down to San Francisco and beyond. Ken and I were excited and sad at the same time, so many emotions happening all at once. It was hard saying goodbye to mum and Chris and of course Richard and Jen back in Toronto. I had tears in my eyes as we left and said our goodbye’s. It was wonderful to see our friends at the dock when we let go of the lines and again it was hard saying goodbye. Thanks to Mike B’, Mike and Gil, Laurent’s family, Peter, etc. The lines were released at 1330 and off we went, of course hoping to sail but that did not happen......not enough wind! As soon as we left the dock we started up the watermaker to make sure we had water onboard and took turns at the helm and navigation. Our crew onboard with us were Ryan & Kris and Valerie and Laurent.

We arrived at Neah Bay at the fuel dock on the morning of Aug 24th at 7am after motoring all night. The fuel dock opened at 8am and we made sure all the tanks were full ready for our treck south. We ended up with not enough wind and motored most of the day until 6pm when the wind started to pick up. Motor was off and we were sailing downwind with 1 reef in the main. The wind continued to pick up and we ended up with 2 reefs in the main and 3 in the genoa reaching speeds of 7.4 knots boat speed and 8.4 speed over ground. Tonight would be our first night watch offshore, Ken at 9pm and me at 10:30pm. We came across a military vessel and a cargo ship, the cargo ship was extremely accommodating as he gave way to us as we were heading south. Weather and seas were good.
