Dominicalita & Drake's Bay

18 January 2013
Carole
After leaving Quepos we headed to Dominicalita for our overnight anchorage, not an anchorage we would recommend as it was very rolly and neither of us got much sleep that night. Ken did jump in the water and cleaned the bottom while we were here in the afternoon so not all was lost.

Off we went to Drake's Bay the next morning, arriving at 1:30pm what a nice anchorage. Just after we arrived Richard and Karen off of Snowaway went over to August Moon and we were all invited over to August Moon. Richard and Karen are heading north as they are coming from the Caribbean so we wanted glean as much information as we could from them. We will stay in Drake's Bay again tonight and then head to Golfito in the morning, it will be a 190 hour run approx.
Last night was great, both of us had a good sleep the anchorage was good, very little roll overnight. We thing that today we will head ashore and check out what is there and have lunch at a restaurant that was recommended by Richard and Karen.

We went into the restaurant today, it is actually an "an all inclusive resort`but they are willing to take us. There is only one choice on the menu, Mahi Mahi, salad with Papaya seed dressing, rice, beans and tortillas. Sounds good to us we said, the meal was absolutely amazing, very good quality, Carole`s plate was clean at the end of it. After eating we hiked into the village about a 25 minute walk, we saw tropical flowers, trees and a huge stand of bamboo, what a treat. On the way to the village we found a little store, after talking to the owner she told us that they had only opened a month ago and were trying to figure out what people are willing to buy, so we helped them out with that. Doreen and Carole went shopping, the end result was that between them they had bought 6 wraps, a blouse and another small item. After than we continued onto the village where we found 2 grocery stores and an icecream place. Ice cream was on the agenda and all 4 of us indulged! It was now time to return to the dinghies before high tide decides to take them away on us. Our friends on Andromeda has arrived in the anchorage and once back at the boat we found out that we were invited over to their boat for appies and drinks. This was the perfect end to a great day.
Oh, by the way, apparently Sir Francis Drake came here in the 1500`s and there is a plaque in the restaurant to acknowledge that. Tomorrow off to Golfito.

Here is some shots of us and other boats crossing the bar at Bahia del Sol. Some of the images look worse then it actually is as they are taken from a jetski just ahead of the boats. Everyone enjoyed the ride. Some of the women who helmed across the bar said it was better then sex; but I doubt that.

In July 2010 NautiMoments, with her crew of 5 onboard, joined 8 other member boat of the Blue Water Cruising to sail offshore. This was a test of our boats and our selves. At 8:00 on July 13 we sailed from our birth in Point Roberts, down the Strait of Georgia, Boundary Pass, Haro Strait, Strait of Juan de Fuca and up the west coast of Vancouver Island to Ucluelet, with overnight stops in Sooke, Bamfield and Turtle Bay (in the Broken Island Group). We then sailed offshore before returning to the Broken Group. Then we sailed the return trip to our home port of Point Roberts.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover ........(Mark Twain)........ Life is too short to not live your dreams.
