Uvala Lucice, Otok Brac
With the weather coming in the form of a cold northerly we had made the decision to head in the direction of Split so we left Korcula about 8:30 AM in light wind for the long motorsail back to Hvar. We had enjoyed Korcula very much – it was likely our favourite destination with lots to see and do in a compact medieval package. Seeing more of the island would have been nice.
Our first plan was to anchor in one of the Pakleni Islands near the western tip of Otok Hvar but as the day progressed the radio kept broadcasting gale warnings for Thursday and we decided to press on to Brac which was 8 miles closer to our final destination in Split. We were able to sail a bit once we rounded the tip of Hvar and arrived in a lovely bay, Uvala Lucice where there were moorings to pick up in the deep water. A local harbour representative soon stopped by to collect $40 for the mooring use as we enjoyed the twilight at anchor. Rene immediately went for a swim in the crystal clear water. We have continuously been impressed with the clarity and cleanliness of the Croatian waters – they are much clearer than even the Caribbean! Rene’s chicken risotto with eggplant was out of this world!
