Trogir, Croatia
Once again, after a bouncy night with a 12C low we were in the cabin with the fireplace on. We started timing the bursts of wind knowing we had to be out of the slip before 11 to make room for the rightful owner. The charter boat left early so there was no excuse. We planned our maneuver and waited for a lull in the wind. It seems to come in bursts of 18-20 knots about every 5 minutes. Rene stayed on the dock to catch the boat and hand off the pick-up stern line and with luck, & careful planning, we got safely into our new slip. Only took an hour to complete! We only moved about 25 feet!
We decided on a bus trip to Trogir at the other end of the big inner bay we are docked in. Trogir is an island town situated on a parcel of land between the mainland and yet another island. Postcard pretty!
We arrived after a 20 minute walk to the bus station and a 45 minute bus ride around the bay. We walked across the island town enjoying the hidden arches, crooked lanes and small squares. Consulting the guidebook we selected Konoba (tavern) Fontana and were not disappointed with either the squid or risotto scampi (shrimp) and their house white wine was excellent! An outstanding lunch!
After chris-crossing the village, seeing the Cathedral and climbing the bell tower (Rene even went halfway up) we again toasted the setting sun at a waterfront bar before catching the bus home. There is less wind tonight and a lot less rolling. Looking forward to a more comfortable sleep! As we complete this entry the wind machine has started again, winds whistling through with gusts up to 28 knots & the boat healing to starboard! Perhaps it will be an exciting night once again!
