Tom finds religion and kisses a saint!
The patron saint of Corfu is Saint Spyridon and we found his abode. The routine, even among the younger islanders, is to enter the old Greek Orthodox church in the center of the old city, slip past the alter and enter a back room where on kisses the silver coffin of Saint Spyridon three times before exiting and lighting a candle. Very solemn affair and I do believe Tom is a changed man now.
Toured the magnificent Old Fort of Corfu built by the Venetians. Very impressive and commanding. Wonderful vistas of the sea and Albanian coast as well. Treated ourselves to a delightful meal in a quaint Greek restaurant with bright green tables and chairs. The grilled squid was very much to my liking and everyone enjoyed the unique baked feta dish.
Today was also laundry day on board Necessity, ten loads! To be expected after two solid weeks of cruising. Everything smells so nice and fresh. The bright sunshine helped to dry things out with the more demanding items succumbing to the drying cycle of our on board washer – dryer. Such a convenience!
Preparations were also made to move the boat further along our path south through the Ionian Islands. Next stop – the very small island of Paxos.
