I first heard of Trizonia Island in the Gulf of Corinth while watching Paul & Sheryl Shard videos. They had stopped into the little harbour at Trizonia where they met a British couple making their way out of the Med back to England. They became enamored with Trizonia and had been there three years. A quaint tavern up on the rise above the harbour called Lizzie’s Tavern was featured in the video as well.
We boarded a bus in Itea for the 60 km coastal trip to Glifadha were one catches a small ferry boat over to Trizonia Island. Being off season the little village was vacant. One café was open where we enjoyed some hot coffee and free WiFi. Met a live aboard German couple in the harbour (no fees are collected here) who informed us Lizzy has died (they said by snake bite after lingering 9 months?). The harbour had numerous relics in port and one sunken ketch. Not the romantic port portrayed in the Shard video at all. Nice place to see and a good day’s outing, however we all agreed that Itea was the place to be while we wait out the high winds.
