01 June 2012 | Konnos Bay
Dean
After three nights on our hook off Fig Tree Bay we moved a few miles south to a small bay called Konnos. What a vista. Secluded white sandy beach, a wonderful hill top restaurant that Antonis had told us about, and a cute little dinghy dock in a tiny rock lined cove perfect for getting ashore. Unlike Fig Tree where a navy seal routine is required to retrieve the dinghy from its deep water mooring. Fig Tree also boasts many high rises and holiday families. Konnos is much more intimate. A single small café at the beach, really neat lounge chairs that can float in the water as well as provide a comfortable perch from which many nice seashells on the beach can be seen.
We decided to have a big lunch ashore at the Spartiatis restaurant set at the edge of the cliff top. Our host took us back into the kitchen to see all the fresh fish, prawns and calamari. It is a family operation where the grandmother provides a tasty desert snack of deep fried dumplings after the meal.
They also have a WiFi so we were able to connect with home. Tom in particular wanted to send an offer to purchase back home. What is he up to now?!!
We spent a very quiet night in the bay. Slipped out at 530 and had an easy passage to Larnaca some 23 nm away. We passed a tiny cove off Cape Greco where eight fishing boats were congregating. Some early morning meeting or gossip session?
Each afternoon a strong southwest wind sets up with gusts to 40-45 knots some days. Getting under way early avoids some fairly challenging weather.
Olga arrives later in the day at the nearby Larnaca airport. Tom and Carol fly out from the same airport a few days later. Crew and I will miss them. Wonderful couple to spend time with, always so cheerful and happy. Carol has developed an unusual early morning deck attire that we may adopt as standard dress code on board Necessity!
