Wednesday April 17, 2013
After breakfast on board, Brian and Howard tried to find the source of the engine issue. Concerned about a clogged fuel filter all 3 filters were changed with little results. The engine would cough but not turn over. We inquired about a mechanic and one was located who could come soon. Brenda & Howard went with Irene for a walking tour of the medieval village and lunch out while Brian waited for the mechanic and the translator. Arriving by scooter without any tools he started troubleshooting the problem which turned out to be a significant air lock in the fuel line. Finally resolved, the motor purred again like new. (now 3pm.)
The walking tour of the old village provided an opportunity for shopping and enjoying the old fort. The threesome stopped for Greek salad at a local establishment and took lots of pictures. Returning to Necessity Brian passed the group of 3 walkers on the back of a scooter. The translator had taken him to the filling station to get a spare can of diesel.
We all enjoyed sitting in the warm sunshine while sipping an adult beverage. We walked back into the old town about 6:30 finding it almost closed down. We chose a restaurant which featured “Kleftiko Lamb” which was a baked lamb with potatoes and vegetables – excellent. Howard and I had octopus as a starter. We Skyped Jennifer from the restaurant and also learned of the arrival of Khalea Rose Knox on Monday with pictures of the beautiful baby and proud parents. A happy day indeed!
We checked the weather and decided that tomorrow was the quietest day to depart for the small island of Halki a short 35 miles away. It was a quieter night and all of us went to sleep early with plans for an early morning departure.
