Kilada

Nothing like a dolphin show to make your day! On the way from Hydra to Kilada two large bottlenose dolphins played in the bow wake for 25 minutes. We could even hear them “speaking”. Numerous times they would roll over on their side and look up at us on the bow pulpit. Wonderful to watch them glide effortlessly though the water and then leap right out. One would jump over the other. Very playful.
Kilada is a traditional Greek fishing village. We found a spot along the wall to med moor with our bows to. Best price yet – free! A short wall of 100 meters takes us to a strip of cafes, restaurants and shops. All along the sea wall small traditional fishing vessels are moored. One fisherman was slamming a recently caught octopus repeatedly on the cement. Wham, wham…over and over again. We had seen this before. Seems brutal but must work well because the octopus here is so tender and tasty.
On the recommendation of fellow cruisers Rick & Bonnie Salsman (see http://www.sailblogs.com/member/aisling/) we were to try out a restaurant called “Douglas”. There were no identifying signs however all the locals know of the place so it was soon discovered. We sat down and were asked what we would like to drink. Then came plate after plate of anchovies, boiled greens, fried cakes with mint, fried zucchini, octopus, and small fish. And then grilled calamari! What a meal, more then we could eat. Total cost for three persons - $30 Euros!
