It rained a bit overnight which turned into drizzle in the morning affording everyone a chance to sleep in. The plan was to attend a church service at the old Knight’s church of St. Lawrence next to the marina. We were there in the back representing Canada for the 11AM service which was all in Maltese with a bit of Latin for good measure so we can’t say we really got much out of it. We were hoping to hear organ music but it seems there was no organ, nor choir for that matter. Afterwards Jim & Jackie went back to Valletta with the idea they would go to Selema, a newer area of the city on the north shore, but after a nice lunch in Valletta there wasn’t enough time to insure they could get back to the boat before the last ferry. Rene and Brian toured the extensive Maritime Museum with two floors of marine artifacts housed in the Royal Navy Bakery on the Quay. There was everything from Phoenician relics and models to 1950’s dredgers and an extensive display on the second world war and the 1565 Seige by the Ottomans.
Back on Necessity we enjoyed the warm sunshine and made plans for our departure early Monday morning before choosing one of the many restaurants along the Quay for our last meal in Malta. There was Octopus Fusilli with olives and tomatoes for Brian and a lamb shank for Rene. Jackie chose sea breem and Jim was satisfied with a chicken Caesar salad. We all turned in early anticipating a 4:30 wake up.
