Easy days in Sicily

28 April 2014 | Licata, Sicily
Dean
So easy to waste away a day here. By the time we get up, make some coffee, get a hot shower, tackle a few boat projects, organizes a trip in to town for butane, eat a nice fresh salad, have a nap, go for a long rambling walk, check emails, and procure some fresh provisions.... it is dinner time! And I mean Sicilian dinner time. 730 - 830 pm!
Antonio, who works at the marina, arranged to get my North American propane tank filled with butane (actually they use a 70% butane - 30% propane mixture here). It was his day off and he arrived in his old beat up Panda. Off we went.... zoom, zoom. What a driver! Tailgated the cops and even passed them on a narrow street! Eventually we arrived at the butane shop. A very nice Sicilian lady spoke Italian to me rapid fire. Always followed by "capisce" to which I answered in the negative, and away she went again! What I got out of it was this; my North American tank has this sized fitting and the European fitting is of a different size. In her hand was the connecting device which she seemed very proud of! Anyway for not too much money I now have a full tank.
But Antonio was not finished with me. Café Signore? Off we went to his local haunt. Espresso for me, Martini Vermouth for him!! Did I mention this was in the morning?
Then over to the commercial harbour to show me a boat that had sunk last night. Finally back to the marina passing by the best gelato establishment (according to Antonio).
A real good day all in all.
