| About: | Mike is a retired Candian Forces Army officer who has been dreaming of the cruising lifestyle and visiting new and distant places for years. We started in 2008 with a real shakedown trip to the Gulf of Mexico by way of the ICW. In fact he actually started this trip 37 years ago but then life - marriage, family, career, etc. intervened so this is kinda picking up where that left off. The second cruise was supposed to be from Nova Scotia to Newport and from there to Bermuda and then to the BVIs, but a strong nor-easter in the Gulf Stream and that plan went on the back burner. Instead we went down the coast to the Bahamas which was very pleasant, but on the way home engine problems Barb's knee replacement surgery and a kidney stone threw a hiatus in our liveaboard lifestyle. We plan to resume in the future after the dust settles. We picked Nelleke up the next spring and brought her back to NS where we are awaiting surgery on Barb's knee before setting off once again. Barb is a retired IT consultant who has been training and looking forward to a series of extended cruises for some time now. The first trip to Tampa has just whetted her appetite and although dissapointing the second trip has done nothing to discourage her enthusiasm. We have settled in a town on the South Shore of Nova Scotia called Shelburne, bought a house and are planning to bring Nelleke down here to join us in the spring of 2012. For the next couple of years we will build our cruising kitty and gunkhole around this end of the province, resuming the cruising lifestyle a little later and using Shelburne as our home base. Periwinkle is a white minature schnauzer who as delusions of Klingon and serves as the ship's security officer. Although small, he is blissfully unaware of that small detail and behaves like a rottweiller except when he hears sirens and in a thunderstorm. Nelleke is a 1980 Moody 42' PH Ketch. She is a solid heavy boat who likes strong winds that will let her pick up her skirts and move. | ||
