Our Ghosts

I noticed that Barb made mention of her "spirits" in our house.

Poppycock! Poppycock, I say! Codswallop! Pishtush! and all those other polite expletive deletives.

The noises that she speaks of are nothing more than some kid throwing a snowball against the side of the house hitting one of the windows and it's an old house. If things aren't put squarely on the shelves with someone who shall remain nameless thudding across the floors eventually it will work itself to the edge and fall off. After that it will be the spirit of gravity that takes a hand.

Harumph!

When I speak of ghosts that I am missing, I am refering ot the bonafide translucent apparitions that look like the woman in grey, or the headless man, of the fellow who looks like a soldier or something like that. We don't have anything like that here. More's the pity. Just once I would like to have a night time lerambulation to the head and find my way blocked by some sort of ghostly apparitition. I'd love to have a wee chat with one if they were to appear.

The weather is warming up (famous last words. It will probably be blanketed in snow tomorrow AM. Watch!) and I am looking forward to getting Nelleke back in the water and bringing her up here although much will have to wait until they get the moorings back in the harbour which will be around May, so there are still two months of thumb twiddling that I have to do.

For Valentine's Day, Barb bought me a couple of books, one of which was called Island Life by Greg Brown, a story about two Americans who decided to try to make a go of it living on McNutt's Island at the mouth of Shelburne Harbour. He writes very well, reminiscant of Lillian Beckwith, and the stories are excellent and has made us even more determined to explore the place. I have found out that one of the ladies that works with me here in the town office also has a cottage on the island and is married to one of the people described in the book. Unfortunately, the downturn in the US ecconomy caused their dream to crash and they are back in the US having turned the proporty back over to the original owner who has it back up for sale. Check it out. If we ever win the lottery it is a spot that Barb and I would be interested in This is the link to the MLS for the property
