Friday the 13th
Our friends Jack and Joanne from New England called to say they were in Marathon and heading to Key West on reconnaissance. They had secured campground space for 6 days in Marathon and were looking at going to the Navy campground in Key West, but wanted to check out the route, having heard there were a few tight corners. Afterwards we found parking just off the historic waterfront and strolled down the wharf. Well past lunch time we took a table at Schooners Wharf Bar, ordered drinks and seafood and caught up while we watched tourists and boat traffic go by. A mini tour of the area followed and we headed back the Atlantic route so they could get back to the dogs. It sure was nice to have crossed paths with them, just like old times. The evening rounded out with a burn barrel, live music and lively conversation at the Tiki Hut. The walk back up the docks under glittering stars was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
