Blowing In The Wind

17 March 2009 | Port Berenice, Sudan/Egypt border
The wind has not abated much yet (although it doesn't stop the fisherman coming out to swap fish for cigarettes!), but we finally managed to get the dinghy in the water this evening and get over to Paramour where we, with Lee and Teri from Glendora, finally managed to have the anchoring-up beer we have been promising ourselves for well over a week!

The evening was the occasion for the debut of the latest Neva song, which was also broadcast over the VHF radio to the other Rally boats in the anchorage.

It is a song about the delights of being holed up in a refuge from the wind, and in particular the opportunity it presents to enjoy each other's company to the full!

BLOWING IN THE WIND

How many places have we seen like this,
just desert and camels and sea?
And how many knots is it blowing out there?
We don't care we're as snug as can be
And how many days will we sit on the boat,
enjoying each other's company?

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind

How many months has it been since we spent
An idle morning lying in bed?
And how many books do we have on the shelf
Sitting there just waiting to be read?
And how many days must we stay? We don't care
We've got six weeks to get to the Med

The answer...

How many chances will we get to use up
All those tins that have sailed the seven seas?
Although how many diff-er-ent meals can you make
From beetroot, Spam and lychees?
And how many days will it be till we fall
Victim to some gastric disease?

The answer...

How many books can one person read?
And we've no more boat jobs to do
And we've two hundred films and we can't find one
That I want to watch and (s)he does too
And how much personal space can you find on a boat
Without going to hide in the loo?

The answer...

(D) How many times must I tidy the boat?
We've got junk coming out of our ears
(P) And how many times must she tidy the boat?
When she does all my stuff disappears
And how many days till we get off the boat?
It feels like we've been here a year

The answer...
