Black Sand Bay, Grenada hike
27 November 2015
Leaving the boat at 930am was a good start for the day. Penny and George(StarShot) meet us at the dock ready to go. We caught the number one bus to St George's. Once in St George's we did an errand, then as walking noticed the children practicing steel pan. It was lovely to stop ,watch and listen. Some children were very small compared to the steel pan size, but they played.
We then proceeded to number five bus to take us to the stop for Black Sand Bay the ride taking maybe 25 minutes but it took that long also to fill the bus, most buses fill at bus stop before leaving. I think there were at least16 of us on the bus.
It is a pretty drive, up and down hills around sharp curves in the road. Oh I forgot ,add speed to that and you may want to close your eyes, hehe.
The hike was easy, downhill to start then through a plantation where you see the remains of an old sugar mill, overgrown but vines, trees and brush. This is where we met Joseph Carter, he told us not the baseball player of related to Jimmy Carter. He continued on our home with us to the bay telling us about the vegetation and filing us in on some Grenadian history. The beach has eroded away since being here two years ago but still nice to see. Penny and I even found a few sea beans. We walked the length of the beach leaving our sandals on because of the hot Sand. We then ate lunch at the shoreline where rocks provided a good seating area.
