Another Day on the Aegean Sea
We left the harbor of Galini this morning at 9 am.This morning as we tried to leave the wind was still strong in the harbor. With careful maneuvering, and a lot of creativity; we swung the stern into the wind and backed away. We swung forward and off we were what looked like a great day of sailing. After turning the point Ak Litinos, the wind and waves began to wane. At 1320 we are motoring. We stayed in motor sailing mode until around 1600. We were chasing the shade all over deck, ducking under the sails as much as possible. Without a bimini top it sure is hot! Just as Mike was thinking about taking a nap we looked ahead and saw the waves. It was another day on the Aegean Sea. Stay vigilant. Within minutes we were prepared for another rough ride. I was wrong about the Beaufort scale on Tuesday. We were in 7-8 Beaufort on that day. Today was just 4-5. Yet, we still encountered some of those 25 knot gusts. Our safety gear is getting a run for its money. We anchored along the beach at Keratokambos. We had tried entering the tiny fishing harbor but the depth at the entrance was less than five feet. We had a good shower to wash the caked on salt off and then a yummy chicken dinner.
