We successfully obtained our cruising permit today. After chasing down information about the driving license since Friday evening we determined it could take up to two weeks. This morning we drove to Mali Losinj and asked their harbormaster what is actually required. The Croatian law requires the operator to demonstrate proficiency to safely operate a boat and to carry the certificate of competence issues by the individual's government. This is normally done through a government's licensing process or certificated from organizations such as the American Sailing Association. Our government doesn't issue licenses for sailboat operators and we never took an ASA class. In our case we showed the harbormaster our log book as evidence of our competence. This is also how we came in last year.
The weather was beautiful today but it just started to rain. The weatherman is calling for some showers tomorrow and clear after Wednesday.
