Port Townsend!

16 July 2014 | Pacific Coast
Alice
With the moon watching our backs, we glided into Boat Haven in the early hours.....friends Ace and Anne meeting us at the dock, lighting the edges of the slip with flashlights. Sweet return. The clock tower struck 3 as we shut down and made Blue fast.

We sat chatting till the birds sang. Breathe out.

Thanks to all for your love, kindnesses, wishes, thoughts, and prayers, they sat in our rigging, angels on the sea.

All is well on True Blue, We send our love, Alice, Kate and Pam

Land Ho? Canada!

15 July 2014 | Strait of Juan de Fuca
Alice
Wnd WNW 4 Visibility 4 nm in fog and drizzle

Oh Canada..Just a glimpse of your shores as we approach....How familiar are your cool waters and misty shorelines. I have missed you.

We motor along, third reef in and boom centered to steady Blue in the roll of the sea, we have come in on the high side of the traffic separation to avoid the large vessels in transit. It was ebbing as we entered the Strait, but we were able to stay clear of the main body of current by riding the steeper edge of the Strait and then stepped into the main as she turned to flood. We are making good time...7.5 knots, and should arrive in Port Townsend in the wee hours tomorrow morning.

All is well on True Blue, We send our love, Alice, Kate and Pam

We have NorthWest Wind

13 July 2014 | Pacific Ocean
Alice
Barometer 1026 and rising Wnd NW20 HDG 89 T We have wind!

After about 12 hours of motoring, we shut the engine down to do checks and by the time I was done transferring fuel, a light N breeze was in the air! We took a bit of time to look into the deep around us with our headlamps...interesting creatures drifted by us....segmented and transparent, foot long filterfeeders. The wind was too light to sail so we started the engine again, and headed east...by morning the wind had picked up enough to keep the sails full and it has been building all day....

205 nm to the Strait!

Whales!

11 July 2014 | Pacific Ocean
Alice
Barometer 1022 and steady Wind SSW 15 .... A beautiful sail last night under the moon...clear sky, flat seas and wind to keep the rig singing. Lovely. The sky is still clear today, the air is cool but the sun is warm. Summer in the North.

The night before last we saw whales heading North just off our stern in the moonlight. Such an encouraging sight, other living beings, healthy and on a passage of their own.

428 nm to go to the Strait of Juan de Fuca at the time of this position report!

All is well on True Blue We send our love, Alice, Kate, and Pam

Beam Reaching on a Beautiful Day

10 July 2014 | Pacific Ocean
Alice
Barometer 1024.5 and falling Hdg 81 degrees true Beautiful SSW winds blowing about 25 knots most of the day and we are smoking along on a beam reach at a steady 6.5 knots ...flat seas under a bright sun! This is a sailors dream.

Everything seems to be lining up for an easy arrival...will have to see what changes happen in the forecast but so far it looks pretty good for an arrival in Port Townsend on July 16.

All is well on True Blue We send our love, Alice, Kate and Pam
