Looking Aft, in the Main Salon

25 April 2007 | Rochester and Sodus Bay, New York
Peter O. Allen, Sr.
This photo shows the entire width of the galley at the aft end of the main salon. The boat isn't heeling; I just don't seem to hold the camera level sometimes.

The VHF radio is mounted on the side of the white box in the center. This box covers the reel-style centerboard winch. The battery selection switch can be seen just outboard of the radio, whose microphone hangs just inside the companionway.

There is a small drawer in the structure behind the removable ladder. Both lower panels in that structure are doors which swing open for access to parts of the engine. After removing the ladder and the drawer that whole structure can be removed for major access to the inboard engine.

The counter to the left of the photo (starboard side of the boat) is the top of the large ice box. This also serves as the chart table if you are using paper charts to suppliment your GPS.

All the interior cushions have just been re-covered.

Extra:
When the boat suffered major cosmetic damage on SuperBowl Sunday 2004, we knew that this was the boat we wanted to keep and restore, rather than replacing it with something else. We're glad we did. This is the story of how we acquired Canto in 1998 and what we have done with her and to her since [...]
